Brentwood is comprised of six different neighborhoods, and is a very affluent neighborhood on the Westside of Los Angeles home to many notable residents. The neighborhood is located at the base of the Santa Monica Mountains, bounded by the San Diego Freeway on the east, Wilshire Boulevard on the south, the Santa Monica city limits on the southwest, the border of Topanga State Park on the west and Mulholland Drive along the ridgeline of the mountains on the north.
The Getty Center and J. Paul Getty Museum are two world-class points of interest in Brentwood. The area luxury hotels include The Hotel Angeleno and The Luxe Hotel. The Brentwood Country Mart, a rustic shopping center with outdoor patios, is a historical site and home to high-end shops and restaurants. A popular street in Brentwood, San Vicente Boulevard is divided by a wide median on which stand many large old coral trees. This is a popular stretch for residents to run, walk and bike and is approximately four miles long running from Ocean Avenue on the west and terminating into Federal Avenue which is adjacent to The Veterans Administration.
Brentwood is comprised of the following six residential neighborhoods:
Brentwood Park
Brentwood Park is located between Sunset Boulevard and San Vicente Boulevard west of Kenter Avenue/Bundy Drive. Its boundaries are: Cliffwood Avenue (north and south of Sunset Boulevard) on the east, to Rockingham Avenue (north and south of Sunset Boulevard) on the west. Perceived as a wooded refuge and a place to get away from the bustling city, “The Park” is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Southern California. The Brentwood Park Property Owners’ Association was founded in 1915 with the objective of preserving the unique, upscale style of living.
Brentwood Park had once been part of the Rancho San Vicente y Santa Monica, a grant of over 30,000 acres of “mountains, mesa and shore land” given in 1839 to the Sepulveda family by Governor Juan B. Alvarado. After the Sepulveda heirs sold their holdings in 1872, for less than $2.00 an acre, the property changed hands several times. Western Pacific Development Company developed Brentwood Park in 1906. It was one of the first neighborhoods built along San Vicente.
Brentwood Circle
Brentwood Circle is an exclusive gated community located east of Barrington Avenue and north of Sunset Boulevard. Brentwood Circle is within walking distance to Brentwood Village, a charming shopping area with restaurants, shops and offices located just south of Sunset Boulevard on Barrington Avenue. The J. Paul Getty Museum sits on the hilltop overlooking the quiet community.
Brentwood Glen
is located south of Sunset Boulevard, south of Brentwood Circle west of the 405 Freeway and the Veterans Administration. There are a total of seventeen streets that run east/west and their names are alphabetical. Brentwood Glen consists mostly of single family homes; there are duplexes, triplexes and multiple-unit apartments.
Crestwood Hills
Crestwood Hills is located on the ridges to the north and east of Kenter Canyon in the Santa Monica Mountains. It is best known for its mid-century modern architecture and consists of several homes designated as architectural landmarks by the State of California. Many of these homes were designed by A. Quincy Jones, a well known Los Angeles based architect known for innovative buildings in the modernist style.
Kenter Canyon
Kenter Canyon begins at Kenter Avenue, north of Sunset Boulevard west of Barrington Avenue and is a fairly flat road until it starts to ascend at Kenter Canyon Elementary School which is approximately 1 mile from Sunset Boulevard. Located in Lower Kenter is Homewood Road, one of Brentwood’s most popular streets with larger homes and larger land parcels.
Mandeville Canyon
Mandeville Canyon is the westernmost part of Brentwood beginning at Sunset Boulevard and extending north towards Mulholland Drive, though it stops short of Mulholland Drive with no connecting automotive route. Mandeville Canyon Road is an exclusive community home to many luxury homes on large land parcels.
